The Pearl of Great Price

Matthew 13:45-46

"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.

This passage brings to mind an old but familiar story about a young girl who went walking with her grandmother one afternoon. They passed by a second hand shop and as they walked by the young girl saw a beautiful pearl necklace displayed in the window. It was love at first sight; she begged her grammy to please buy it for her. Her grandmother was more than willing since it only cost two dollars and made of hard plastic. That didn’t matter to the young girl; she loved them so much she wore them every day after that without fail.

After a few weeks the young girls parents noticed how much the necklace meant to her and one evening her father came in to tuck her into bed and asked her if she would be willing to give him the necklace. She refused and went to bed. The next evening her father did the same thing and the young girl became upset and refused again but this time the father looked disappointed but said okay; kissed her good night and left the room. The next night her father came in to tuck her into bed as usual but he did not ask her for her necklace. She was happy but noticed he looked very sad. As her father kissed her goodnight he turned around to leave and the young girl calls to him with tears in her eyes and asks him to take the pearl necklace because she couldn’t bear to see him sad. Hope an Anchor to our Soul

Psalm 16:8

“I have set the Lord always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved. NKJV

Psalms 16:7-11 “I will bless the Lord, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons. I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope. For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. NKJV

This passage is not just a beautiful promise but a prophetic one as well. In Acts 2:25-28, on the day of Pentecost, it says the Holy Spirit had come into the house where the disciples were and they were moved by the Holy Spirit; speaking in tongues of their own languages. The people who stood by watching this didn’t understand while some mocked them and thought they were drunk with wine. Read more...

Day 17 - The Lord of the Sabbath

Matthew 12:6-8

“Yet I say to you that in this place there is One greater than the temple. But if you had known what this means, 'I desire mercy and not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the guiltless. For the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath." NKJV

Context:

Matthew 12:1-2 “At that time Jesus went through the grain fields on the Sabbath. And His disciples were hungry, and began to pluck heads of grain and to eat. And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to Him, "Look, Your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath!" NKJV

Recap:

Once again the Pharisees were trying to find fault with Jesus. In their attempt they continue to use the law against Him to ensnare him in a trap. Jesus being God in the flesh knew the Law better than anyone and answers them in truth but they still cannot understand Him.

Jesus tells them that in this place there is one greater than the temple and then he reminds them by saying if they knew what He meant and then repeats the words he shared earlier when they accused him of fellowshipping with sinners, “I desire mercy and not sacrifice’ They would not condemn the guiltless.
